Cherry case clock with Isaac Grotz with Easton under the name on the hand painted face.It has a moon dial .It is 7'-8" tall from floor to top of finial.

Gravity Clock, lol. nice clock, unique variant on this , first celling mounted ones I've every seen. Opps, sorry, had to joke a bit. But really nice clock, does it chime also? can only see one key opening. How long does it run?
Kerry it's not really upside down its just the way you holding your I pad. It has two key holes and it keeps perfect time and never stops running.
LOL, thanks Chris5762, wonder why it was different, spun the old screen around and looks better. I don't really know particulars about larger clock works, but looking at this, circa 1814-16 model, from what I can see, better shots of the dial would help. But it looks to be a Grotz clock, very nice, thanks for sharing this treasure

Kerry, you have been around long enough to have seen ceiling mounted grandfather clocks. That's why they invented Velco. Part I'm having trouble understanding is, "never stops running". Guess technology has jumped ahead of me again. "Atomic clock"? From experience, I know pendulums don't work well upside down. I'm envious of the clock but would have to modify it if it were mine.

Hello Chris5762. This is a beautiful old-timer! Thanks for sharing it. I think Kerry has given you some good information. There's not much I can add to it.
It looks like Issac Grotz from Easton, PA lived from 1777 to 1835. http://records.ancestry.com/Isaac_Grotz_records.ashx?pid=127217548
I found an Issac Grotz Tall Case clock very similar to yours which sold at auction in November of 2012 for $5,000. That's pretty good in this economy!

As you can see on this photo, someone re-traced "1814" on the dial face:

Even a professional restoration is something that you only do as a last resort if the face/dial has deteriorated to the point of not being legible.

Hey that was my great great great grandfather grew up at a kid with one just like this in my house.. We didn't wind it up much because it's in mint condition but it chimed belive it would run a day or two...
