I, along with many collectors of vintage Timex watches, have often debated which model can be called rare. Although opinon varies on the topic, there is one model when mentioned that most if not all can agree upon. It is the one and only true mil-spec watch that Timex ever had in development.
What really makes the MIL-W-46374B rare is that Timex never went full production with them. However, a release in short supply occured in early 1982 for only two months. A few lucky collectors have some of these. But, I was not one of them. That is until recently when I came upon the collection of a former Timex engineer. Amoung the collection were several early prototypes or pre-production of the mil-spec.
I date the one pictured to late 1960's - early 1970's. Rare? I think so. You will notice that the case back has infomation but is not complete. The final dating of a mil-spec does not get stamped into a watch until it is relased. Hence this one never offically left the factory. The third pic is a sampling of parts used for other prototypes under consideration.
