I believe that this is a candle table, but have no idea how old it is or who made it. It is different from other similar tables in that it has four spindles supporting the table-top instead of one column. The legs are connected to the lower platform with flat head screws. The four spindles actually go through the table-top and are flush with it, as can be seen in the picture. Any information on this table will be greatly appreciated.
The screws underneath look like phillips head to to me. Truth be known, I believe where you think the legs come thru the top, are where screws are going into the legs & those are wooden plugs to cover the screws. A really old one would not have the holes come all the way thru the top but only part way. Sorry.
They're definitely flat head screws. You're probably right about the legs. I am definitely no furniture expert and that makes sense. Does the fact that flat head screws were used date it at all. They kind of look old. I only paid $10 for it, so no harm done there. And it has a good, vintage look about it. Thanks for your input.
"Flat head screws" doesn't mean anything. Are they flat head with philips head or common straight slot? To be honest, that doesn't prove anything as a lot of better furniture makes use common straight slots(probably even today) probably as a show of maybe quality. Philips came into general use around WWII & has taken over until "star" & other styles. In other words, it is almost impossible to date by screws without close observation. I'm basing my decision on more than that. Without a visual, you have a fairly modern contemporary. The price was fair so don't complain as I wouldn't make 1 for you at that price.
They are regular straight slot screws. I agree, a person couldn't economically make a table like this for 10 bucks. Just wishful thinking that it's a priceless heirloom. Thanks again.
