pic1 -- had this fire made it through the steel door the entire house would have been lost -- the door held but was extremely hot for many hours after the fire department was able to extinguish the fire

pics 2 & 3 -- the master bedroom and closet sit above pic1 -- as you can see that fire was working up the wall -- 5 minutes more and it would have all went -- luckily the gas hot water heater and furnace did not explode which are along that wall in the garage area -- the bike was hanging right above these objects

pic 4 -- stairway going up to the second level

wishing you all a very special memorial holiday and hope you all are able to stay out of harms way

Thank you Epson. I am so sorry you have to go through this. Thank goodness for a decent insurance company. As bad ad it seems it could be worse. At least you are okay and Abby didn't get hurt. Happy Memorial Day to you!

thanks nldionne -- yes had that fire occurred at 4am rather than 4pm -- i am sure we would have all died a terrible death -- we were very very lucky -- when i opened that steel door to reach around the corner to pop the garage door opener -- is was like a black devil of smoke and gases was just waiting to come into the house -- tried twice after i caught my breathe -- but by that time the fire had consumed the electrical panel and destroyed all power -- so all i could do was run back outside and continue to hose water onto the backside of the house as ted continued to work on the front -- as we waited for the fire department to arrive -- another blessing was a train was not across the tracks to block the entry to this gated community we live in as there is only one entrance into steamboat landing -- luckily there was no wind and it had been raining all week -- to the fire did not jump to the surrounding homes -- as i always say -- my number was not up and so have many many more days to live is this wonderful planet called earth

Hey Autumn and Ted, Leah and I are very happy that you are both OK and we will keep you in our prayers. We had a house fire several years ago and have a very good understanding of your situation. We hope things return to normal for you both very soon! If you ever need someone to talk to or if there is anything that we can do you know where to find us. XO and Best regards to you both! Charlie

thanks charlie, leah and all members for the kind thoughts -- everything is progressing nicely -- hartford insurance has just been so professional and super in making you feel they are working for you and truly sorry for your loss

it is a learning experience -- with smoke damage they allow you to keep an item that is not made of plastic but the plastic attachments are inventoried out -- so i now have many sets of glass pyrex mixing bowls with no lids and several vacuum cleaners with no attachments -- oh well such is life -- as they say don't sweat the small stuff and all things are small and boy does a fire ever bring that back home -- heck of a way to downsize!!!!

take care and hugs to leah

thanks lee and sean for the loves and comments -- i am hoping the last comments left by me on the huffy bike posting will be of use to anyone having a tv box which converts an analogue signal to digital -- as this is believed what caused the fire -- again we were so lucky it occurred at 4pm rather than 4am as we would not have had a chance to escape from the house -- since the electrical short caused all power to be lost immediately -- causing the phones and doors to lock up

      have a great weekend
