I bought this at a local antique mall because I could not leave him there. On the bottom is a lable- Trico Nagota Japan Hand Painted.
It was labled as a biscuit jar. I believe that it is porcelain due to it's translucence.
Does any one have information/knowledge of its history and/or value

I agree with you, it struck me as odd when I saw it the first time.
