This is a sixth plate ruby ambrotype that depicts what I would consider to be a very beautiful woman of the era. She wears a lot of jewely-- brooch, bracelet, earrings and ring.

Her jewelry has been gold tinted. Her features have been enhanced as well-- light red to her face and a slight hint of blue to her eyes (a minute tinting effort calling for a very steady hand).

This beauty was photographed by Lyons of Philadelphia and bears a blue label under the glass. Most likely "Apheus M." who is noted to having a studio on Market St.

The photograph dates from the very late 1850s.

Reproduction of this image in any form is prohibited.

Most of the old photos of women, the women seem so sad and not very attractive. But she is so different than most. I love this photo. And is that an orb in the last photo? The second also seems to have this orb.

Thanks smiata-- images showing attractive women are much harder to find and usually command a premium over a standard image. The "orb" is a camera lens reflection on the glass plate-- nothing spiritual or alien!
