OK No polishing! There are two hallmarks on other box, but no Jungin, maybe brass? I weighed the silver box, it is 37 grams, the other box is 35.1 grams!

With that patination ... I'd say copper.
    Don't clean patination off.
The Japanese were experts at mixed metals: part of the sword manufacturing and decoration.

These are "stress relievers" one held in each hand and kneaded. Most are in the form of a ball.

I do not think so, as they open up, you could put things inside, the sterling one and the other are too delicate to squeeze,.

lol...I love the advice you have received...sounds like my friends...don't clean it or polish it etc...supposed to look old if it is old ;) I agree and would guess they are for holding something...I had a little silver ring with Asian writing in it...when I was at my dentist I asked the girls to look at it and see if they could read it...turns out it was Chinese silver with maker's mark and feb. 29th inscribed...good luck in finding out what they are and what they are used for...thank you for sharing your great find!

This department store has always provided stiff competition for Mitsukoshi, with a history just as long. It was founded as a kimono shop in Kyoto during the Edo Period and opened in Tokyo in 1933. Today it's one of the city's most attractive department stores, with a Renaissance-style building and gloved elevator operators whisking customers to eight floors of shopping and dining. Naturally, it features boutiques by such famous designers as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Issey Miyake, and more. Its sale of used kimono (look for advertisements in the Japan Times) draws huge crowds, even more than the usual 35,000 daily customers. Open daily 10am to 8pm.
