On the back of the larger "canvases" they say, "TONG TAI, FUH KING STREET, FATSHAN, CANTON, CHINA." The other ones say "Made in China" or ,like the Dragons, (which are Fab), nothing but tissue paper is on the back. I read a reference in Worthpoint (only reference that had a picture of a similar scene with the same Exact "TONG TAI, etc" on the Back, and it was 1899 and they sent these to altars and temples where the Monks applied them. That is no easy task. These were saved because they were lost in a big book for a century, then I put them in another big book, then I framed as many as possible when I foUnd them after 25 years of being lost in boxes. These are SO FRAGILE, one wrong breathe and their gone, ripped. There is one design (I have 3 of them) that are like Lace, it is the design two men in the center(not on this page) and they have cut outs everywhere as contrast, these are by far the most fragile, so I framed everything with the materials I already had, just to protect them, so please do not judge the metallic backgrounds or frames, I used what I had!! I just wanted to protect them.
I bought them in the same old Book and Manuscript shop behind Notre Dame that many of my nicest Paperphernalia and Antique Prints came from. I wanted to buy a big pictorial book of old South of France and when I looked through it, 50 different "Gold Leaf Tempura Paintings", some like lace, some like canvas, some shaped like the Dragons, Lions and Women they represent. The store owner didn't know they were there or particularly care, he said if I bought the book, the gold leaf paintings came with. Like I said, I moved back to the States and in that everything was boxed and stayed that way till just recently, when I mustered the energy to overcome my standard procrastination and look through all these old boxes.
I am going to print several pages of Different Images and PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE EVER SEEN THESE OR RECOGNIZE WHAT THEY ARE, HELP ME!! (Said like the little guy in THE MOVIE "The Fly", HELP MEEEEEEE!!!!
AS ALWAYS TO THE BRILLIANT THINK TANK THAT IS CW, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP. If you still have these and are curious as to what they are, I believe they are labels from fireworks. Fatshan was well known for fireworks in the late 1800's - early 1900's. Try researching it that way. Hope this helps!

I see that you have posted this a few years ago and I have 7 of these and looking to find out what they are. I was told they were firework labels of a sort.
