British WWII Special Constable Sergeant steel helmet. Rare helmet. This is another one saved from a landfill site when the Cumbria Police Museum was discontinued two years ago and almost the entire contents scrapped!!! Belonged to a Sergeant in the town of Ulverston, in what was the County of Cumberland and Westmorland. Sadly his name and details were scrapped along with everything else!! Criminal!! Rank denoted by the two stripes and also the Sergeant Chevrons. A Special Constable is a police officer who volunteers his services for free. He has the same powers and duties as a regular Police Officer, but does not get paid, sometimes a retired police officer, or a civilian who wants to do more for the community, over and above his regular job. We still have Special Constables today.
