Shown are two mens' wristwatches by Gruen. The one on the right is restored, in the Veri-Thin style, and was given to my paternal grandfather by my paternal grandmother in the 1940s. The one on the left is unrestored, from the 1930s, and in the Curvex style.

      Awesome Gruens!
I like seeing Gruens that have been handed down generations in families. Those are the special ones.

I was browsing through an happened upon these two and noticed the watch on the left. That was is a 1938 Master. It should have a 17 jewel movement and the case - Yellow Gold Filled with a Guildite back. In 1938 they retailed for $29.75 which is inflation adjusted to a price $500 in today's dollars.

A bit more data from the watch on the right would make identifying easier/possible, and it'll be less time consuming. If you can open it, I would like to get the information stamped in the back of the case along with the caliber of the movement.

      Hi, Mike,

Thank you very much for providing me with the specifics on the 1938 Gruens watch. Without opening it, I know that the 1940s Gruen watch has a Yellow Gold-Filled, Guildite back. At a later date I will open said watch to collect the rest of the information.

      Happy Holidays!

      ~Nicole
