    found this old picture in my grandfaters old roll top desk.its very small about 2.5 in wide and3 in tall.it seems to be on some type of metal,i was hopeing someone could date this type of process.

      Tintype.

      They were very popular in the US from the late 1850s until the 1890s. They continue to be made today as a novelty item.

      Your image appears to date from the 1870s- 1890s. Most of the earlier tintypes were cased.
