Would like to know origin/age. Is this French or English? Purchased in 1993 from a home owner who had it in their home for over 75 years. Wood, maybe walnut, has carved "S" scrolls on crown and base.

I used to have one very much like yours, to this day I regret parting with. Mine was Eastlake.
There is obvious liquids spilled on the seat cushion flowing to the backside. Plus on the back upper area appears to have milk-like substance spilled on it. The coloring of the sections of wood do not appear to flow together very well. The verticle pieces that may have been turned then carved appear to be a different type of wood (they almost seem to be plastic or veneered). It may just appear that way from shadowing, lighting or conditions of storage then cleaning.
