Here is anther gorgeous Erte... I love the kitty cat and the spotted dress! I don't think Erte is much in vogue right now, but I still think they are gorgeous.

He made them around 1985 and I went to the gallery that had exclusive rights in NYC at the time to see the exhibition !~

Wow PhilDavidAlexanderMorris (may I call you Phil?). That's amazing experience. I think my in laws bought their collection in the late 80s. Unfortunately they have really dropped in value, but I still love looking at them.

Hi DrFluffy, I'm now in love with Erte sculpture, and I'm going to blame you!! I absolutely love these beautiful deco gems!
When you say the value has dropped, these seem to be listed for big$$ on-line, what would be a good venue to purchase, gallery/auction/on-line? Are there reproductions of these ? Where they made in limited numbered series?
They are truly spectacular, thanks for getting me hooked on Erte!!

Thanks pickrknows, so glad to have introduced Erte to you. As far as value, they were typically double what they are going for these days. The reason behind the price is the fact that they are pure bronze and very heavy. I am not completely sure your best venue for purchase. Perhaps a reputable gallery or estate sales might be good too. The ones I posted were purchases by my in laws at the height of their glory. They are now in my home and I love looking at them. But from an investment perspective they were not a great investment.

There are so many listed for sale, and a wide range of pricing, not sure why? Most seem similar run quantities. He has had an amazing legacy,,
    Erte Sculptures
Erte is perhaps the most famous artist of the contemporary art world. A Russian-born prodigy who helped reshape the modern scope of haute couture, Erte's sculptures, paintings and illustrations adorn the halls of some of the most prestigious galleries, museums and private collections on Earth.

Romain de Tirtoff (Erte) was born in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The only child of an affluent and socially elite couple, young Tirtoff enjoyed a comfortable childhood. At the early age of five, he foreshadowed his success as one of the 20th century's most prolific costume designers by creating his very first garment--and it was just the beginning. In the future, he would not just create fashion, but sculptures that captured the elemental grace of fashion.

After moving to Paris at the age of 18, Romain de Tirtoff decided to change his name by combining the two initials of his name. The acronym R.T. soon evolved into Erte. Not long after landing in Paris, Erte found work as a fashion illustrator and spent most of his days sketching haute couture. This time served as an informal education for the young artist, who soon began creating couture images of his own. His background in couture influenced both the subject matter and the style of his numerous sculptures.

Today, Erte's work can be found in many prestigious museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Erte sculptures naturally echo many of the themes of his famous serigraphs. A celebration of fashion and the female form, his sculptures feature elegantly elongated limbs, draping clothes, and a sense of sophisticated whimsy. Working largely in bronze, Erte created sculptures that reflect a variety of different eras, fashions, and women, but all convey a timeless beauty amid a modern aesthetic.
    I'm on the hunt now!!
