I have searched the internet extensively. I found conflicting information. One seller lists the mark as Tarzana Pottery Co. from Tarzana, CA owned by Edgar Rice Burroughs (creator of Tarzan). Another site attributes it to Watt Pottery Co. Burley & Winter used a heart mark but it is a little different than the above heart. One other site stated the pottery came from St. Louis. There is enough conflicting information that I'm still searching.

I am in the same situation. I can't find out any other info. I have a crock in excellent condition with a blue heart with a number 5 in the heart like the 2 above. Then, I have a jug in great condition with a blue heart and a number 5 in it. I got the jug from an elderly man and he said that it came from California. So. I just don't know. If you find out any info, please share. Good luck! Thanks. I am still researching.

The number is for gallons, for example this one held 2 gallons.

This is a burley and winter crock. They are rare. The number must be a bubble letter instead of one line. Most Burley and winter crocks have Albany slip brown glaze on them, this crock has the post 1920 brown glaze. I would date this After 1920 because of the brown glaze. If it were Albany slip glaze it would have a bleeding shine. If you would like more info email me usafreedomlove@gmail.com Thank you everyone.

This is Burley Winter, their 'Heart' brand. This link takes you to the Blue White Pottery group, the Burley Winter page. If you watch the scrolling photos you will see a crock that shows the mark and also a catalog page as well.
