Found this at GW this morning along with my McCoy piece. It's very nice and all hand painted. It has been there a while and part of a 50 piece collection they got in months ago. It's a Bradford Exchange plate and it was in a round wood frame like the alabastrite relief one I bought a while back. Don't know why they took it out. Oh well, 4 dollars was a very good price. I found a description of the plate on Rubylanes's website as they have one for sale. Not sure what all the writing on the back translates to. The warning about "not for food use" is in English though. -Mike-

This plate is part of the exquisite series of 12 limited edition collector plates by Master Artisan Zhao Huimin, which portrays the heroines of the classic Chinese romantic novel, A Dream of Red Mansions by Hung Lou Meng, written between 1755 and 1790. The book is one of the great classics of Chinese literature and is studied widely in China and by Chinese scholars. The book has a very large cast of characters, however central to the plot are the 12 beauties, one of them is pictured on this plate. This plate is of the beauty Pao-Chai, number one of the series. The plate measures about 8.5" in diameter and is in excellent condition. It is free from chips, cracks or crazing. This plate was produced in 1992 by Imperial Jingdezhen Porcelain in China and exported through the Bradford Exchange.

pooh thisis difficult , because there are a lot of dissertations about this , probably you need some knowledge of aristocracy , and social stratification

we got an dude , who is called Pao-Yu, he is a sort of chinese James Dean who loves poems and chicks, thats contrair to chinese feudal morals

so he got an problem , because he got a low status , he only became some status bij passing the civil servant exam

one theme is feudal destinism and the top dog is Lady Dowager and he Pao -YU has to marry Pao- CHi , because she is rather submissive, but he loves Tai-Yu , but she is sick and against the grain

so they tricked Pao Yu they tell him you can marry TAi YU, but it was thet secretely want to veilPAO CHAi--hahaha case of mistaken identity

Tai TY discovered the secret and got unconcious , a monk appears , he recovers ( an sort of Deus ex Machina theme, but it is the deus ex machina did, not work, he got nightmares (nightstallions ?)

So the thinks what the F,,, is the significance of this, so he did some mental repair and did the civil servant exam, so bring in the boose and let,s celebrate, but then he lost his marbles , Pao Chai is pregnant and othere trouble and vanished ( Peter Pan Syndrome dissertation about this )

the following is an sort of Gothic Novel effect between and CHing Cheng and PAo YU ( compare an sort of Jane Eyre effect , Jane Eyre in the moors (Rochester, Rochester, i hear Rocherter were are you , tears and sobbing probably the moors the moors are almost drowing haha, see also EL CID) and all Ching Cheng remains to see was an range of snow flakes squander

The narrative is about the proficy of Pao- Yu former dreams , he was in a sort of LALA land dream , and because he was not the the smatest peanut in the turt, a goddess had to explain the appeared poems of the 12 beauties CHingling , which actuaaly an protest against the social stratification from top down like bullying, nepotism etc

the end is unclear , but the, but the influence of the dinasty declined

what happened to Pao YU is unknown to me, probably became wicked influenced , and was a mark in a murder i believe

a lot of people has died in this story, hanging, swallowing, liquid cold, you name it etc
