(140 items)

Picked up this mid-century modern picnic cooler, "The Royal", off a BIN eBay listing for 50% book value. Condition is pretty good considering age and durability of the material.

During the 50's, manufacturing of many metal items was converted to plastics, as the petroleum refining by-product became plentiful and cheap when America's thirst for gasoline exploded (see Car Culture).

This cooler is lighter than the smaller, metal airline cooler in my collection. They both look nice on display next to the Vendo.

Hey Dave, I'll bet you hung that thing on a chain type thingy. Everything is looking mighty fine!

Hi Perry and 42. Thanks for your comments. There are small hanging holes at the top of each side of the case. I flipped it upside down, loaded the menu board from the bottom up, then mounted it on nails using those holes (now at the bottom of the case). There's just enough flexibility in the case to pop one side off when taking it down to change the lights. I've added a pic. Flipping the case upside down also worked well because it brough the electric cord down a few inches, just enough so that it reaches the outlet (no extension cord needed). I figure this hang job may be as designed for mounting up high in a corner.

just took a look at mine and never noticed the holes in the corners! Thanks, I think I'm going to hang it the same way.

I just noticed your menu board in a picture from a previous post. Same version. I see you have original letters as well, very cool. Your collection looks awesome, by the way.
