I have three Gibson of Kinghorn Two Fifty woods with shafts which increase in thickness towards the leather bound handles in stages almost like the knotches in bamboo. I cannot tell what material the shafts are but they have True Temper, Patent No unreadable and Registered and Made in England printed in gold writing on them.
On the bottom of the one there is a brass "B". On the second is a brass "D". In both instances the letter is the full width of the head and punched into the brass is PATENT No 450755. The third wood has a metal plate which appears to be aluminium or an aluminium alloy with a figure 4 punched into the centre of it.
I also have a Gibson Kinghorn "Cara Mia" wood head with wood, possibly hickory shaft and leather bound handle putter. It has a brass plate screwed to the base and a lead filling which makes it quite heavy.
I inherited these along with a very old bag which has long since fallen to pieces and a number of old irons from my late father who has been dead nearly 36 years. I gather that he inherited them his father who came from Laxy, Isle of Man. Where he got them from is anyone's guess. I still played with them until about ten years ago when it was suggested that I should retire them for safety reasons if nothing else.
I will be very interested to know the approximate year of manufacture and anything else of historical interest about them.

I know this was posted a while ago, but a few things I can help with. This patent was 1934 around the time that steel generally replaced hickory. You have the "D" for driver and "B" for brassie, and there was also an "S" for spoon, kind of driver, two wood and three wood in modern equivalents.

Gibson kept producing wooden shafts for some time post and I think you can find these models in hickory, danga and steel. All produced in Fife, Gibson were one of the biggest producers of irons of their day with Harry Vardon and James Braid models.

Not surprised you were still using them; I do! Might be right about the safety as the glue does age. Have renovated similar woods and can still look nice too.

Would be great to see more photos if you still have them.
