This rocking chair has been in my wife's family for over 50 years and is believed to be over 100 years old. No identifying marks are visible. Can anyone help with identification? I haven't seen any other rockers with spiral turned pieces.

Have you found out any information on your chair? I have one that is almost identical! I have been searching and can't seem to find out anything about it. Mine has no visible identifying marks and yours is the only other chair I have come across that is like this. The only difference is that the carvings on the back rest of mine are quite a bit more intricate, though it is the same shape. I believe my seat may have been re-upholstered.

Please let me know if you have any new info! If you'd like I can email you a photo for comparison. Thanks.

The spiral-turned posts are called "barley twist". I am helping someone sell a regular (non-rocking) chair that has exactly the same twists and even the same knobs on the top of the back. The main difference is hers has an upholstered back as well as the seat, and the crest is even more ornately carved. It is definitely early 20th century and may have been made in Quebec.

Your chair is a barley twist chair possibly oak from 1910. I can’t seem to post a picture but will try.

Your chair is a nursing chair...
