Each one weighs about 100 lbs, maybe more. i should have placed something next to them for scale, but the round depression in the middle is about the size of a milk gallon. I found them buried in a yard we are landscaping and they were in the way. i might use them as bases for the cedar post frames for an office at the nursery. i sure would like to know what they were originally used for though.
They look like they are column bases, the upper surface appears rough like it was made to accept a mortar bed.
Certainly architectural, I like the egg & dart motif.

Do you think they came from the current house in the yard that you are working on or an older building?
it is an older house, but the owner had no idea what they were used for. there's a cemetery nearby, so it might be from there.
That could be a possibility, some monuments were put together in sections & the hole would center the next section. Not to many were done in a cast concrete though.

I think they are called cast concrete pier caps. For a stone or brick wall. Planters, urns, balls, or even a light fixture in the center.
