any opinions as to the original use for this chair? my first thought was "spinning chair". label on bottom states Coronation Furniture Company, Ingersoll, Ontario.
it has a strange back with angular corners (see photo) Very wide chair but extremely low to the ground. only 13" to top of chair seat.
cheap cotton upholstery tacked to sides of wood seat.

26" wide, x 2 feet deep by only 13" high.

Opinion on value would be much appreciated.

I have the same chair. It was in my grandfather's bedroom for years. mine has a cushion on the back and seat with a skirt around the base.

The picture is so small my old eyes can't see it closely. Looks like the back wraps around the sides. That with the height would make me think it is or was a grandmothers chair.

If you go on my page you can see a modern one called a story time chair.

Did anyone find any further information these chairs?
I have one that is similar but it doesn't have the 'corner' sections on the back and the base of it actually rocks back and forth due to two springs. Rather than the legs being the rocking portion. I have not had much success finding anything out about it. It is also from the same manufacturer.
      Thanks!

I don’t know if this will help you much: it’s called a spring rocker. The back shaped that way is called a wing-back.
I recently posted a spring rocker I reupholstered and updated.
Every picture I’ve found of this type rocker in original condition shows a skirt around the base. There were probably practical reasons for the skirt other than just being the style. I think it prevented small children from getting their fingers crushed or pinched in the rocking framework and springs...same thing for pets getting paws or tail pinched. The skirt would also help prevent dust accumulation on the springs and framework. When I restored my chair, I left the skirt off because I didn’t care for the look of it but I also do not have pets or crawling babies around it.

Wing backs on chairs were to make them more ‘cosy’ and warm since the wings blocked drafts and helped hold heat.

Thank you Watchsearcher, that was very helpful information! My mother wants to reupholster ours and I think her preference will also be to leave the skirt off. Would you mind sharing a picture of your chair with it's new upholstery?
Thanks very much for sharing that info!

I would be happy for you to look at mine!
If you click on my name, that will pull up my profile with all my posts.....scroll thru them and you will come across it.
I used a bold fabric with bright colors because that appeals to me instead of the subdued fabric that it probably originally had.
(I’m too dumb to know how to provide a link to the particular post, so you’ll have to go to my profile).
