Several years ago at work one of my co-workers came up and ask if I would be interested in some old picture frames. So we got together and went to his fathers place and down in the basement were several frames and a beautiful oak secretary. I bought the frames but couldn't talk him out of the secretary. He said he was going to have it refinished and keep it. I was so surprised that he sold me those frames because in those frames were pictures of his relatives. I sold all the frames but kept this one because it shows how back then even the animals were part of the family and thats why there in the photo. I'd give anything to have a photo of my family back then in such a big beautiful oak frame. I'd say it dates back in 1800's. So I guess I have inherited a new family.

That floors me! Why would someone sell family photos? I have boxes and boxes, and framed stuff all over my house from my family. I just don't get it.
That is an amazingly cool picture! I would kill for a picture like that of my family. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you geekasaurus!
Make sure you note where this came from and any info you have of the guy you got it from, may want to end up back in the relatives hands one day and I hate to see things like this get lost with no info tying them to where they came from, attach something on the back :)
Thank you savethetoys for the nice comment. I will take your advice.
I don't understand all the fuss...anytime I want to see family I just go down to the Post Office ! Of course most of them ain't framed (although I got a cousin that claims he was!)
Now that's another story for the bench! LOL
So are you hanging this family up? By the way Im in the process of trying to get my Gmas Old Secretary from the 1800s also, tracked down who my Dad sold it to when my Gma died and they are willing to give it back to me but I have to find her another piece in exchange. Ill post photos once I get it. :)
The picture has been hanging in my living room ever since I purchased it.
Like SAVE THE TOYS says ... mark it in a non-destructive way.
Some day some one will inherit this and wonder who the relatives are in this photo. Someone might suggest a resemblance to one on either end.
Our Post Office doesn't hang photos any more. They just post the names of the gas stations in town. They figure "what is a small bank job compared to the robbery that takes place at the gas pump."
Ours stopped hanging photos too. They hanged Uncle Jesse, instead. Yep, I'm gonna have to start carrying a Georgia credit card if this gas thing don't slow down ! (For those of you who don't know , a "Georgia credit card" is a 36" piece of garden hose.) lol
Thank you MooreAntique!
Thank you leighannrn and trukn20!
This is so lovely Official, I too am always excited by how animals feature in the photos too : ) and like you I would give anything to have old family pix especially in such a gorgeous old frame. I am so lucky - I think I have JUST in the nick of time managed to get hold of some to keep and make copies. My family is broken and also all over the place - I am finding it emotional but also enjoyable finding out and trying to find out who is who and what is what, I just hope I am not too late! which I think I will be to fill in a lot of the missing spaces!
That is a picture you would never want to remove from that incredible frame. These people are very proud of the home they have created in a harsh land and bring class to their surroundings, so the people back in the old country can see how prosperous that they have become. This is real treasure. I absolutely love it !!~

That's a beautiful old house that they are standing in front of as well, do you know its location?
Thank you walksoftly for stopping by and showing some love! This picture was photograph in eastern Indiana. I don't know the exact location or if the house is still standing.
