This is an example of a class of gates known as Automatic Gates since they could be operated remotely from horseback. I have not found any patent information. It tilts straight up. I purchased this on EBay. The seller advertised it as folk art. Any information about it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at the hardware holding it together I would say you have neither a prototype nor a salesman's sample.

flhrjr2 - Thanks for your comment. I can see you have a good eye. I replaced the rusty, mismatched bolts and nuts with brass replacements to spruce up the model for display. It could very well be folk art, but who creates folk gates? Looks to me to be someone's brainstorm. Probably never built full size.

I would sooner think this might have been made by a farmer or rancher trying to make life easier on himself by doing a miniature first or quite possibly for a child who had a doll house or miniature farm set as an addition to their play set. In that I enjoy woodworking I know a great many individuals who would be inclined to make homemade toys.
