This item appears to be a brass quail bird. It is hollow and has two round base-type appendages. It will not stand on the base-like appendages, so it must have been attached to some type of object like a box or some furniture, furnishing, or decorative piece. It was discovered in the ground around an old housesite and we suspect the housesite was circa 1800-1890.
