This is a lovely necklace in classic German Jugendstil style designed by Carl Hermann, made around 1900. It is silver gilt with a central greenish turquoise and baroque pearls to the sides and drop. It is marked on the back 'Depose 900' and the maker's monogram, which is an intertwined H and S for Hermann & Speck, a jewellery workshop in the city of Pforzheim. Fritz Falk wrote a detailed history of this company in his book "Art Nouveau Jewellery from Pforzheim", published by Arnoldsche (2008).
