This plaque measures 1.75" x .25" x 1.25" and is is carved in high detail on all faces and edges. It is white and green in color with the green ranging from soft/muted to a brilliant emerald green. It is also well polished.
The plaque depicts parts of the lotus,~also known as Chinese Water Lilly~the lotus flower, leaves, and lotus seed pod. The carving is so masterfully done that even though the seed pod only measures .25" across the tiny individual seed compartments can be seen (photo 4).
Also included in the carving is a mandarin duck (photo 1). Maybe less evident, however, is a tiny frog clambering up the opposite face of the plaque onto the edge (top of Photo 3 and left of photo 4). It is this edge that is dappled with the emerald green; a detail I'm sure the original master carver intended to capture!
This plaque was suspended as a pendant lengthwise by a triple strand of seed pearls with a silver clasp. The silver clasp is marked in Chinese script, perhaps the artist's name? The strand was already broken when I received it, along with only 1/2 the original clasp. This plaque, however, easily stands alone~ :D
