    Moonstonel…
    (765 items)

This reminds me of the fine Antique vases of the Japanese fine pottery makers. This is light and finely constructed from a master pottery maker. This is signed MORCRAY? MORCRAL?
The story goes...I got this at SA for $1.99 today while returning for a store credit.

Thank you Kevin and Thomas for helping me find the answer!!!

    9. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, what do you think of MORECRAFT?
    10. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
Maybe so . It could be. Can you tell the last letter at all?
    11. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
      It's "morecra" something
    12. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, I can only make out L or Y......or I? Who ever made this vase was an true expert. I have seen this workmanship in fine Asian Ceramic pottery...its truly feather light and perfect.
    13. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
I don't doubt it's a work of art. Do you think it's Asian for export market? It certainty has that look and I would trust your sense of feel.
    14. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, I think this was export from maybe Japan or China? Maybe part of a set of sake cups? Its handmade and old. The feel I get is 1940's-50's? I maybe wrong....the feel and to touch the vase..plus the finish. Its really nice!
    15. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
It's almost a reminds me of a bottle vase except the bottom is larger. You can tell the influence. The capital M indicates by larger case a name, or title.
    16. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
Chinese bottle vase. I'm not familiar with Korean and southeast Asian ceramics.
    17. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, I think you are correct!!! I think this is interesting to find out!
    18. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
Lee don't say old and mention the 1950's.
    19. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
The potter wrote well in English case so maybe it's Singapore, Hong Kong ?
    20. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
      Thomas...or English pottery?
    21. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
I doubt I helped any in the discover. Honestly though that's the part I enjoy.
    22. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
It could be . I have seen that shape before in a small Newcombe piece. The finish was matte blue. If I remember correctly.
    23. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
      Oops Newcomb autocorrect got me
    24. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, could this be from the same company?
    25. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
Possibilities are Morecrab, Morecraf, Morecral, Morecrat & Morecray.

Google search with inverted commas ....... vase "Morecraf" etc. yielded nothing.
The inverted commas signal that the term must be in results.

Morecraf looks like a possibility too!

Four stilt marks is unusual I think.
    26. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Kevin, do you think this is from a small pottery company? The "M" looks familiar....
    27. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
Arts and Crafts piece. Nice lustre glaze. We call them drip glazes here. How big is it? a Miniature? It would be more difficult to do a smaller version I think. It might be a student in an Arts and Crafts School? Just playing around with ideas. Here in Australia there was a School in Queensland called the Harvey School. A series of pottery exercises were created by Lewis J Harvey that his students completed in an evening college set up. They got progressively difficult. The students work is keenly collected these days - early twentieth century pieces.

    28. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Kevin, it measures just under 6 inches....so is this new or old? The glaze is not what I have seen in student pieces...but you are more knowledgeable in this area...
    29. vetraio50 vetraio50, 11 years ago
I would say early twentieth century. Arts and Crafts.
    30. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
No it's not Newcomb . Kevin sounds like the knowledgable one.
    31. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, thank you for all your help...every little bit counts :)))
    32. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago

Lee Did you discovery anything more?
    34. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, no..not after Kevin said it was Arts and Crafts....I think he is correct...the name does not pull anything up.... :(
    35. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
You never know with artists. I just appreciate them, I may never understand them. It's beautiful .
    36. Moonstonelover21 Moonstonelover21, 11 years ago
Thomas, thank you ...I thought so too...and whoever made this was a very good one!!!
    37. cogito cogito, 11 years ago
I'm inclined to go with Vetraio50. It has many Arts & Crafts features, and I doubt something for Asian export would have been labeled as such or have kiln/stilt marks.
