Found this at VOA today since GW was another big zero. Don't know why but it was sitting with the kitchen ware. It's 9" tall x 9" in diameter and actually made in two pieces. The bowl and the pedestal are held together with a small screw and a little square bolt. This has also caused a hairline stress crack across the middle of the bottom. One of the scallops on the top was also broken in two pieces and was glued back in place. The design looks all hand painted in gold gilt with a red background. There's a small impressed mark on the inside bottom of the pedestal it looks like a "W" or "M" depending which way you turn it. I'd love to take it apart and check the bottom of the bowl for a mark, but the screw is rusty and I'm afraid of making the crack worse. Could be Continental or US. I checked all the big makers Limoges, Dresden, Meissen and Haviland etc, Nothing like it really. Hard to tell the age of pieces like this unless there's a clear mark. -Mike-
Don't forget Minton or Worcester too Mike. It's a bit blurred. Any other letters or chance you could hone in? And remember the reticulated style was copied in UK...

Dresden looking pottery is very very hard to date. Especially anything prior to 1870. And of course when the requirements came in, in relation to country of origin then it became way easier...
Have you also considered the pattern may form parts of a monogrammed set? Or self promotion of label with the M in the scroll work? It could just be a coincidence.
I am happy to consult my books for your style, pretty much next weekend as have a few tests but if you're happy I'd love to look for you?
Just love baskets and comports....and your are so right not to remove the screws. I've got screws and a staple on mine that you may have seen....it's going to the doctor next month, just got to wait till the bank manager approves the work....!

Thanks for all the info Anne. I did forget about Minton and Worcester. I really didn't think it was that special just pretty. It's just sitting on the dining room table with a million other pieces....lol. Our dining table looks more like a flea /car boot sale table since we never use it for dinner. I even put a smaller Italian majolica fruit basket inside it. Looks quite good actually. -Mike-
