About Ben Franklin Half Dollar Coins

The Franklin half dollar was struck from 1948 until 1963 and was designed by John R. Sinnock, who also designed the Roosevelt dime. It featured the bust of Benjamin Franklin on one side, with the Liberty Bell on the reverse. However, as all coins larger than a dime were required by law to depict an eagle, a small heraldic eagle was added next to the Bell.

Examples of the Franklin half dollar with fully-struck lines on the Liberty Bell are harder to find, and therefore highly sought-after by collectors.
