It's not uncommon to see entire US stamp collections up for sale or auction these days, because it can take too much work (and knowledge) to break them up and sell them piecemeal. However, since most US stamps are not rare (millions were printed), most collections that come to market are not worth what their owners wish they were. With collections, you can't judge a book by its cover - you have to look item by item and see very specifically what the collection consists of.
