    Hi,

today I bought some really interesting pieces at a local estate sale, but I'm not sure what they are........

This is a patriotic artwork piece, background looks like silk, the needlepoint as well. It depicts an Eagle holding an American flag, with 45 stars on it.

Does anyone know aprox. how old this is?
Was it made for some sort of commemorative purpose?
    Significance of the 45 stars?

    Thanks for looking,

    Nessa

These were a popular souvenir item that sailors brought home after a cruise in the Orient. Most date from the very late 19th to early 20th century.

Here is one of mine along with more information:

Thanks-- the fading is very typical of the framed ones. Most of mine are closer to the color of yours (some show more fading).
