The community next to mine has a flea market once a year. It can be great or not, just like all markets. This year it was pretty good with two interesting finds. The first is the wood block (?) stylized house.

I see H. L. Ahrbecker '29 for the signature. Problem is, I can't find HL at all! Does this mean 1929 or the 29th of a series? (no / with another number though)

I think it is cool as heck, the colors subtle, zippy style. Hubby has a completely different opinion. In fact, I got a speech about his opinion. Guess it is not staying in the house if I have to hear about it ALL the time :))

I like it!! Mystery on H.L though, can't find him either! Any info on frame/back of print? Hope it grows on the hubster, it'd be a shame to not enjoy this one!

Pickr, I have hanging to see if it grows on him but after the "get it out" speech, I doubt it. This pretty might be destined to find a new family at the Randolph.
H.L. Is a mystery hopefully someone can help.

Hey Amber You are very close to Bensenville correct ?
Don't know if this is related but one heck of a coincidence if not.

And on her tombstone her middle initial is L.

Her husband died in 1927 so maybe she used her maiden name for this piece.
    12. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Hedge that is interesting but I can't seem to find any info on her. Same county.

Is there a 1/of anywhere. Is the back sealed with brown paper.?
    14. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
No other markings. Sealed back. Confident it's not a print.
    15. Thoscahaba Thoscahaba, 11 years ago
I like it. I was wondering if you had access to the actual paper. Sometimes there's writing on the back, describing the place etc. Maybe more info. I wouldn't tear the back paper if the artist doesn't have any history.

H.l.ahrbecker worked for Chicago retort and brick company according to an Internet posting from 1922.
    17. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
Well that is interesting that HL worked for a brick company. Betting a big chuck of the Chicago population worked there or at the stockyards.
Half my house is made from these bricks. When we knocked down a wall, we sold the bricks super quick

Definitely think it's 1929 - for prints they almost always use a number for the print / total number to designate the size of the edition (as in 29/100)
    19. AmberRose AmberRose, 11 years ago
      Agreed Hunter. Thank you.
Not gaining any traction on two fronts 1) still trying to confirm HL
      2) Hubby still hates it...heavy sigh
