I found these in my garage when I moved into my house 25 years ago and have always wondered where they would have come from. They weigh 2.25kg together and measure 3.5" across and about 6" from front to back. They are made of brass. Is there anyone out there who could shed some light on where they may have been used previously or how old they may be. I have kept them all this time and have no intention of letting them go but I must admit curiosity has now got the better of me.
My first thought was late 1800's door knobs but the size is quite large for that. I'm guessing they are a finial type decoration off of something, maybe like fireplace andirons or curtain rods but could be off of anything.
They do look like finials for scarf/valance
