For my friends who love these old beaded 20's-30's items:
Pic 4: Found 2 necklaces in pieces - $3.00 each. I remembered seeing a finished one in a research book (100 yrs of collectable jewelry, Lillian Baker - page 18) so I knew these were worth restoring. That example was yellow and brown - my colors - but this is really pretty.
How was it made? Not crocheted - the beads are strung on long thread and then wrapped around a 1/8" cotton cord. The 1/2" beads are wood w/large holes and covered w/same beads - maybe glued or maybe not. It's any easy project that I plan to do again w/my stash of old glass seed beads.
Caution: Threads disintegrate over time - I had to do a bit of repair work w/the "rope" spiral and it was frustrating - but so worth it. I love restoring old beaded jewelry. Hope you enjoy this hand-made beauty!
Nice restoration!
