Here are more pieces from Franz Welz that I call umbrella shapes. They are getting harder to find and can be recognized by a silver foil label applied to the side or a "made in Czechoslovakia" stamp on the base, (faintly applied).

You can study similarities across the board by looking at them together...
- For example the punch-outs can number from 16 to 4 (not pictured).
- Pieces range from 4" to 10" - rarely higher than about 10"
- The glass is always thin on the rim and thicker on the base
- Rarely do they have pontils
- The casing glass may be embossed; similar to those thorny handled baskets
- They are rarely flashed
- They are rarely made without applied rims; (black or cobalt)
- The punch-outs produce tiny multiple horizontal cracks to the base glass- but this is normal and not damage to the piece
- These pieces are rarely damaged- strange but true!!
- Enjoy, collect, share...
