This was my Grandma's watch and I wanted to research it and see if I can find out the year it was made. It is in the original box and was well taken care of. Stamped on the back is the US Patent D148125, with a stainless steel back. I would love any insight.

    Thanks,

    Leah

You can date Elgin watches by the serial number, which is probably inside the back cover. - Is that patent number stamped on the band, because thats what it traces back to (1947)

Yes, thank you. I did look up the patent and it says 1947, but I wasn't sure if that would be the actual year of this watch and yes it was on the band. I will probably have to take it to a jewelry and have them get the serial number for me. Thank you for your reply!
