    Hi

I have a campaign chest which I believe belonged to Colonel Algernon G.A. Durand who was a military commander in Afghanistan and India in the 1800s and 1890s. The chest itself appears to be made from fruitwood and iron. It has a metal plate on the front with “Colonel A.G.A. Durand, No. 2.” The chest is in perfect condition. My husband purchased it from the estate of Dr. A. McNamara (deceased) who was an optometrist in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what sort of value this item holds?

    Thanks!
    Carol

I have looked at this chest a dozen time today, I think it's great. For insurance purposes I would say $1,500. If it came up at auction, I would like to be in it at around 4 to 5 hundred. A militaria collector or museum might go 12 to 15 hundred.
