I certainly don't miss these days. This is the official US government booklet from October 1950 on survival under atomic attack. It's an interesting read. Posted a few pages for your reading enjoyment.

This must be a revision. The one we got in the early 50's said, "PUT YOUR HEAD BETWEEN YOUR KNEES & KISS YOUR ARSE GOODBYE".

    No joke blunderbuss.
In the early 70s I was camping for a week at Clearlake in Northern California. We were getting gas at a station who had an air raid siren next to it. I'll be doggone if that thing didn't go off as we were pumping gas. Turns out that the town used them for their volunteer fire department. I thought we were going to get shelled and it turns out it was just a fire. Lol

Don't you just hate false alarms. I was in a bank when the siren went off & they put us (customers & staff) in the vault & closed the door. Turned out to be a tornado. I've been thru the "out of body" death experience & don't fear it anymore. Just fear pain! For some reason, I just don't like pain.

Pain is somewhat of a friend to me. I've learned to live with it. I've been shot, had knee surgery, have a bad back, etc. I rarely have a day goes by that I'm not in pain, but that's okay because I'm better off than most.

Know what you mean Jono. Been shot (that's a bitch), opened up & half deaf now. I'm sure the "out of body" thing (head damage) was oxygen deprivation & not a religious experience but was a true experience! Amazing how many close calls we have that we put in the back of our minds. Just not things we like to think about & our brain knows that. The ones who can't are the haunted. My best.

Thank you for the words, much appreciated. All the best to you my friend.

I went to High school in bay area Castro Valley and there was a Nike Missile Base close by! I live in Santa Rosa now!

Living by the sirens is a good way to keep your sphincter tight. LOL
