I picked this up at a salvage yard today. it's the most amazing and huge burnished tonala pot i've ever seen. it's 26" tall by 22" wide. There are a few condition issues, but those are to be expected in such a huge, handmade floor vase. this may be by the artist known as 'Grabber', but i don't know enough about him to tell. i think this is from the 1920s or 1930s.

thanks walksoftly. unfortunately, i just don't have the space for it. i got a call from a los angeles antique dealer within 10 minutes of posting photos of it on my site.

It would definitely dominate a small room.

now that i've lived w/ this piece for a few days, i'm in love w/ it! i think it's one of the most beautiful pieces of pottery i've ever seen - the apotheosis of a certain kind of mexican art which has a long and rich history. i think it should be restored and put on public display like in a museum.

This is exceptional, my friend, book-worthy. I'm thinking that LA dealer was pretty happy.
