I am unsure of what this is. I know that it is a light of somekind. I am not sure what the function was. Is it a railroad light or what? It is rusted through in the bottom about a end of a pen sized whole. I am just wanting to know some history and maybe how to restore this piece. Also I am curious to a value?!

Most likely an old railroad lantern. You can find similar on eBay to get an idea of how old it is. In this condition, sadly it isn't very valuable.

Looks like it has sockets for two electric bulbs...and the square body probably held a soda-acid battery..which was left in, coroding the bottom out...Very cool!! Probably from the 40s
