With the caveat that I have not handled huge numbers of Czech examples or studied Czech/Bohemian glass in depth, I have not before seen a surface treatment like the one on this bowl.

Like the basket, the bowl starts with red & yellow spatter glass cased in clear - but then there are differences:

    1. The outside top/"bowl" portion of this example has a dull/vaseline-like finish - not an acid finish (?). The inside of the bowl is clear like the basket.

    2. The outside of the "foot" of the bowl also has the dull finish but has orange and yellow "spatters" applied over the dull finish - you can feel that they are raised!

Bottom line you are looking at orange and yellow colored glass under clear glass, under "dull" treated glass and on the surface - under nothing!

Not sure of the maker, thinking Kralik. The bowl is eight sided, 5.25 inches tall and 9.25 inches wide, unmarked, ground pontil and fire polished rim.

      jagsrock95,

Thanks for your comments. If you can find the pic, I'd enjoy seeing it. I looked at all your posts and was struck by how many exceptionally beautiful examples you have in your collection. A person can find, for example, many very nice ball vases - - but the one you posted here http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/90988-kralik-webbed-ball-vase is REALLY nice. Here is another great example in my estimation http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/93288-kralik-millefiori-decor-on-a-tango-base. There are many wonderful millefiori pieces out there and this one in my opinion is a "cut above". I could go on.

Great piece, although a few companies did the 6-sided bowl (including Loetz) the foot, color, and style is kralik. you can see this technique in flashed pieces that have confetti inside the bowl and a cream color outside the bowl. i love it even more when the inside becomes the outside on this piece

the basket probably not related to kralik

VioletOrange...thanks so much for the nice comments on some of my vases...my eye tends to take me toward the un-common pieces. I like to find the wild pieces that have never been seen or rarely seen...and its not easy to find something that Jericho or a few others on here have never seen or have a cataloged photo of...lol

This posting is in response to the posting by VioletOrange.

      http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/109785-kralik-yellow-and-red-oil-spot-mottled-b

Here is the example that I have...although not the same, the basic mottling is similar. I do find it very interesting that your piece has the dull/vaseline-like finish to the top portion...like Jericho said...its like they turned the bowl inside out and then added the mottling to the foot and underside... Great Piece.

      jagsrock95,

Thanks for the post. The dull finish on mine may be a little more unusual but I think your example is much more appealing to the eye - not only the colors but the shape as well.

When I look again at your example (outside view) the yellow "spatters" appear duller than the red/orange - are they (YELLOW) between the outer and inner layers of glass ? Also your bowl has the same dull finish as mine, but on the inside, correct?

      Thanks violetorange,
Ive only recently started collecting glass & know very little, posts like this are so interesting and informative.
I love the blurry effect on this.
Take a peek at mine, it has a matt, satin finish & a similar red and yellow effect

Thanks for your nice comments. I like your most recent czech purchase. You did a nice job of photographing it - captured its satin finish beauty very well.

Hello VioletOrange, your basket is Welz. I have two baskets in that shape in Welz décors, and that looped thorn handle on a basket in a very well known Welz décor. That style of thorn handle is Welz.....though other types of thorn handle do exist.

I would happily post them for you should you wish.
