I have an old wooden model of a river freight Chinese Junk. I believe it is a "Master Builder" model that was created instead of blueprints. The Designer would present the model to a shipyard. The shipyard would disassemble the model and scale up the individual components to build the actual ship. This is in very good condition.
I estimate the age to be something more than 100 years old.
There are some small broken pieces, but I have the broken sections. The sail is intact, but very frail due to age.
Do you have any information that might help me narrow down the real history of the model? Perhaps I am completely wrong, but really doubt it.

I would think that it was simply a decorative model or a souvenir item.
I have a similar ship model that was brought home as a souvenir of a soldier during the Viet Nam war.

Thanks for the input, Scott. If it is decorative or intended as a souvenir, it is still an individual piece, rather than something mass produced. The individual strakes are all chamfered and fit, as are the butt ends of the planks.
It may have been made for an individual as a decorative marine piece. I'm hoping someone can help me... now us... figure this one out.
