    I've had this anvil for ages but don't know a thing about it. Anybody know how should start to research its origin and manufacturer? Thanks!

      That looks like a horse shoers anvil that my horse shoers used to use...very cool!

      Had it for ages? I'm not sure what ages are but this isn't really old. It is rusty but doesn't show any markings on the sides where they would normally be. Only two hold downs where older ones would have four. Do you have a weight for it? Sometimes the weight can help identify one that isn't marked along with some dimensions.

      There is no Hardie hole. It looks like the brackets with the holes were added later, and they are not necessary. It could be held down fine without them. They must be welded on.

      I just have to pass this true story along from a S. Afrikan friend. They had a large anvil at their farm & 1 day when his father came home, he found the horn of the anvil broken off. His father told his workers that he didn't want to know who did it. He just wanted to know HOW!

      Blunderbuss,I used to work at an old hardware store,open since 1888.They had an anvil with the horn broke off,but they knew an employee hit it early one morning when it was freezing cold,it just popped off!Probably wasn't the case in your story,but still odd!

      I did send pic's to the moderator with a tape measure next to it maybe if the moderator could post those it might help
