This is the Mission style oak gentleman's single sized armoire converted to a pantry or in my case, junk storage catch-all cabinet! Yes, I am one those who "cant throw something away just in case I need it later" people. I swear I got habit that from my Swedish grandmother. This cabinet contains 3 widely spaced shelves not including the bottom fixed shelf. Maker on this is George Hobbs LTD (English). Dimensions: 68" height x 22 3/4" width x 16" depth. A good looking and inexpensive pantry.
I love these too! I saw many of these gentleman armoires in San Diego in the mid 90's. The owner told me that he bought cartons full of English, Irish and Scottish wood furniture and kitchenware and I enjoyed them at his antique store. I bought a cool old blanket box and a full size walnut armoire. I wonder if that store is still around. They had some really good old stuff.
Hi valentin97 - that gentleman probably had a relative up here in SF bringing in boxloads of that furniture, too :) Very popular selling item then and it really is great stuff! There's only one pretty huge store left up here that I'm familiar called McCarney's Antique store. She brings all of her antiques in from Ireland, England and Scotland. Thank for the comments and your love of this "stuff"
Hey windwalker and DrFluffy thanks for viewing and the love. btw, that 'handle/name' DrFluffy is such a hoot!
Tutzie, as per your query on my Popeye: I've always thought so myself, but have never got any backing to that, but agree it sure appears to be tied together
