    Streganonna
    (13 items)

Fairly scarce Prussian helmet (Pickelhaube) from the early 1900's World War I period, in original state. Has the lobster back, which I was told is fairly desirable/rare, and also has the original lining.

I might say more than "fairly desirable."

There are those here who can probably contribute more to a discussion of these sort of helmets, but I will say that this sort of helmet was limited to certain regiments of cavalry, and often the front plate can help to identify which regiment. I believe this is a regiment of the home guard, but I'm happy if someone like Blue Max pipes in to correct me.

Oh, I just re-read the title - You've already identified as a mounted Jaeger unit. As today's youth says - "My bad"

Fabulous S. What a great item & slice of history. I imagine it would be highly sought after.

I'll give you a hectare of land, 6 goats & 3 copper bracelets for it.
    9. Chrisnp Chrisnp, 10 years ago
I'll give you all that, plus my secret decoder ring.
    10. Streganonna Streganonna, 10 years ago
Gosh, y'all are getting close to the barter price. When you start adding in goats and a dowry, I might have to start seriously considering it!

I'll up my bid with a water buffalo & have the land cleared of land mines.

Hold out S & you just might get a whole ranch out of it!
    13. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 10 years ago
Afraid the ranch house went with the last napalm strike & it a bit difficult to grow anything because of the residual agent orange for a few more years
    14. Streganonna Streganonna, 10 years ago
Eeeek! A whole ranch! That means work. I'll stick with collecting and displaying unusual things, I guess.
    15. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 10 years ago
No deal? Well, I lost 2 of the goats clearing the butterfly mines on the land anyway.
    16. Streganonna Streganonna, 10 years ago
      How's the water buffalo?
    17. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 10 years ago
Buffalo are to valuable to use for clearing mines. We had 2 nice barbecues with what was left of the goats.

Very nice helmet of a reserve officer of the Jager zu Pferde. Not common at all.

Yes, it is a Jaeger zu Pferde Reserve Officer helmet. Wondering if you still have it or not.
    22. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 9 years ago
Sorry to report that the water buffalo only has 3 legs now. The good news is, one of the goats had 2 kids! I'm thinking about moving! LOL!!

I have a line Kurassier Officer Helmet with brass trim, worn by regiments 3, 4, 5, 7, & 8. I was fortunate to find mine last March. Helmet body is the same type as this for an officer, but mine has a frosted gold color eagle with burnished highlights that is the shape of the regular Prussian Infantry Eagle front plate, which is correct for my helmet. Trim work on my helmet is gold color, and it has a similar leather sweatband with silk liner, and the brown velvet covering under the rear visor (lobster tail, so as to say) is the same. My helmet needs a new set of chinscales, as both sides were broken off. It will require a bit of patience to track down a set. I'll have to post some photos of it. They are beautiful helmets.

Streganonna's helmet was worn by an officer from Jaeger zu Pferde Regiment #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7. Yes, a beautiful helmet indeed!

No, I don't have it anymore. Sold it to a collector about 2 years ago. I know it's found a good home.

Thanks for your reply, that's what I was guessing, stumbling onto this site 2-years too late. Sorry that I missed it. It's a beautiful and rare $5-7K+ helmet that collectors dream of finding.

      Best Regards,

      Alan
