Each February since 1925, Tucsonans saddle their horses, hitch up their buggies and shine their cowboy boots for the “Celebration of the Cowboys.” Its my understanding this parade is the longest non electrical parade in the world, or at least the country. It's STRICTLY horses, buggies and high school marching bands.
I found this at a thrift shop for only a few bucks, from the 1941 Parade awarded to the "Best University of Arizona Fraternity." Betcha they went back and drank beer from it, its a hollow cylinder, must be copper. Missing base, think it must have been bakelite.
This year marks the 89th anniversary of the parade. Its followed by a 4 day rodeo. Its a big deal out here, schools actually close for 2 days for this! City trash does not pick up on parade day! I did a couple parades as a marching band drummer. By the time you got to the end your feet were bloody from those crappy shoes and covered in horse crap but, hey. Think the route is about 4 miles long.
