    (21 items)

This censer measures 4.5" in height and 5" in width without the stand.

I have a question that I was hoping someone may be able to help me with. I noticed today, that someone wrote on the bottom of the stand, "St Louis World's Fair 1904". This made me wonder if this Jade censer is actually a souvenir from the 1904 World's Fair Chinese pavilion in St Louis. I have one of the cranberry shot glasses from that fair, but I have never come across memorabilia of foreign content though it would make sense! :)

Do you know if such objects were sold at the fair or do could you direct me to a resource?

Seen that on Antique Roadshow also, certainly worth checking out.It seems to me the lady got it as a birthday gift about 20 years ago.She seen it at a antique dealer for $300 and talked her Mother into buying it for her birthday.
You should be able to pick up the show on the net and maybe FB,am sure they would be interested in your item.

*~*Wow and thank you so much!*~*
I live near St. Louis, so I stopped by the1904 World's Fair Exhibition room at Missouri History Museum today. A volunteer gave me some information about the World's Fair Society's monthly meetings, and recommended I come to the next one, which I will likely do. I also wrote to Museum's librarian.
I'll update as soon as I get some more information~ :D

      *~*An Update*~*
I received some information from today~ The censer may very well have been purchased at the St Louis World's Fair, but not as I put it, "a souvenir of the 1904 World Fair itself" Rather, there were works of cultural art available for purchase that represented the country itself. I did not understand the distinction at first, but I do now.
It is a Qing Dynasty white jade censer. The lion on top is auspicious and powerful. The elephants (seen on the handles) represent peace.
I have received the appraisal as well... ... and I am happy. :D

Congrats to you! When I first saw the picture, I thought about the Antiques Roadshow and the lady who had one very similar to yours. Hope the news you got was very similar to the lady on the Antiques Roadshow.

      *~*Thank You So Much lawat56 and Woman34!*~*

I am forwarding the information to an auction close by, which happens to be in St Louis. So I think it will appeal to collectors in that area as well. Funny thing is, I didn't get this censer in St Louis. I'm originally from Chicago and that is where we got it.

Angels I tell ya....they seem to be everywhere these days....... :D

It is Qing Dynasty....likely late Qing, so late 1800s-early 1900s. My guess is made within a few years of the World's Fair~ :D

Speaking of the World's Fair, I have a very large and heavy marble Buddha statue that I was told came from the 1904 World's Fair. I am trying to locate some information to tie it to the WF but don't know where to start. Any suggestions?
