It is a miracle that this vase was still in one piece when I opened it today. It was roughly wrapped in a paper towel and stuffed in a thin cardboard box that was barely wider than the vase itself. I held my breath as I opened it, and was shocked/relieved to see the vase was still undamaged! (Why would you ship anything that way, let alone a beautiful glass vase??)

Anyway, thank goodness for a happy ending. This little guy is so delicate and lovely! It is only 3 -7/8" tall, x 2" across and is encased in a very heavy silver overlay (not silver deposit) that is beautifully detailed. I especially like that the floral motif is placed in three areas of the main body of the vase, and that the upper tendrils then spiral around the neck. While I realize it is not technically a miniature, it sure is a delicate little thing!

Doing some research, I have found a pair of 6" vases identified at Loetz Creta Glatt with a very similar overlay - the flowers and details of the leaves are almost the same, as is the glass color and finish. The pair of vases that I came across had European applied silver work rather than American (which tends to be more common, I believe) - glass blanks were often bought and then decorated by other companies. So while I am not at the point where I'd say for sure that this is Loetz, I am definitely leaning that way. (Any additional thoughts are welcome!)

Thanks inky! The detail is just lovely - and on such a little vase, too. :)

      It's a lovely little vase!!!

I once got a massive glass ashtray inside a bubble lined bag... of course it didn't make me in one piece :(

austrohungaro, that is so sad. I honestly wonder what some people are thinking when they pack things for the mail! I recently had an antique oil painting (on board) delivered in two pieces - it had only been enclosed in two thin flattened cardboard boxes. Here's to great packers/shippers! :)

Craig, thank goodness it was undamaged! I think the glass gods watch over some packages. ;)

How horrifying! Kudos to the postal service, they must have handled it delicately. That's worse than the electronics I once order that came in a regular envelope.

Really love the sparsity and movement of the overlay. Thanks for sharing

cosaw, thanks so much! I am glad you like it. (And I also hope your electronics order ended up being okay!)
