Great museum quality his and her walking sticks carved with snakes twisting up towards the knob at the top. The tips at the bottom of the walking sticks are capped with bulled shells. Also carved within the sticks are the names Mr and Mrs Black, Edgewood Internment Camp, Austrian Prisoner Of War.

I could never be sure if these were carved during the artist's time in the camp, or if maybe he was a POW that carved them after he got out. Either way they are great pieces. With a little research I learned that this internment camp was only in operation for a few years during World War 1, and located up in British Columbia. They mainly took in Austrians and Hungarians.

I found these sticks at an estate sale next to a bunch of umbrellas, bought them really quick because I liked the snakes, and didn't realize what I had until I got home. Great pieces to learn some history from!

I was thinking the same thing - and just in time for St. Pat's Day!

Same ones you have for sale on eBay. Interesting you posted them here.

I think this set http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121277341896 is lovely as well, but not as nice as the set you have posted here on cw. I really like the different shades of wood, the green tint is great.

Aimathena those are nice, I was making reference to the ones on the U.S. eBay. I was curious why they were for sale and also posted here. I probably read the rules wrong about posting for sale items. Obviously there are multiple copies of these out there being sold as originals. If it looks to good to be true.....guess what!

They are really unique, cant believe how they were buried under a stack of umbrellas. Funny that I never thought of them as Shillelaghs because I was fascinated trying to figure out the POW aspect of them. I was trying track down possible family that these may have belonged too, but there are a lot of people with the last name Black in the world.....

And to FHRJR2, I only post pictures of things I found, already enjoyed myself then sold, or pieces that I have kept for myself. Nothing on here is for sale.

fhrjr2, Sorry you misunderstood my comments to Quinnsterman. I was only boasting on how much nicer these walking sticks are vs what I saw on ebay. Besides the link I posted is to items that have already sold back in February.

Quin, I Couldn't imagine burying such beauties under a pile of umbrellas. But lucky for you they did ;)

Interesting that the same exact picture is on eBay. Perhaps someone stole it and posted it. I certainly hope you haven't been hacked.

I couldn't find them anywhere on ebay, but I hope your photos were not used for a false sale. I would hate to see cw remove your wonderful post, because of something that was done without your permission and out of your control.

That would be a bummer, I hope the picture does not get removed. I actually sold these to a collector about a month ago on eBay. I like to occasionally share to cool things I found and enjoyed, then passed on. I wish I could keep everything, but at least I get to play middle man and collect treasures, then move them forward to the next person to enjoy. And I get to pay the bills in the process :)

It is a bummer when our post get removed, especially without warning. Maybe the person you sold them to, bought them to resell. I started out on cw by seeking help with the value of a bedroom suite I was about to buy. I just wanted to make sure it was worth $500 before I paid the lady. Worst part was... cw removed my post after I had already paid for it. I was the actual owner when they removed it. I never bothered to repost, because it caused too much of a stink the first time. They removed two other posts with the reason that the photo's were not good enough quality. Never know which will survive, I hope your post stays.
