Great museum quality his and her walking sticks carved with snakes twisting up towards the knob at the top. The tips at the bottom of the walking sticks are capped with bulled shells. Also carved within the sticks are the names Mr and Mrs Black, Edgewood Internment Camp, Austrian Prisoner Of War.
I could never be sure if these were carved during the artist's time in the camp, or if maybe he was a POW that carved them after he got out. Either way they are great pieces. With a little research I learned that this internment camp was only in operation for a few years during World War 1, and located up in British Columbia. They mainly took in Austrians and Hungarians.
I found these sticks at an estate sale next to a bunch of umbrellas, bought them really quick because I liked the snakes, and didn't realize what I had until I got home. Great pieces to learn some history from!
