This relic condition Walther P. 38 pistol was found in Berlin during the early 1960s while digging a foundation for a new building. This pistol certainly bore witness to the battle of Berlin, as the Russian Army overran the capitol of Germany. The pistol has bullets in the clip, and the safety latch is frozen in the fire position. The bakelite grips are in great condition, considering this pistol was buried for a number of years.

Pop, the P-38 was supposed to replace the luger (the P-08). The P-38 was designed to be mass produced, with more stamped metal parts and coil springs. The Luger needed a lot more mill work, fitting and production line time. The P-38 proved to be more durable as well, and the exposed hammer meant that you could carry a round in the chamber without the weapon being cocked. Unfortunately for the Germans, there were never enough P-38s to meet demand, so Lugers continued to be manufactured to some extent throughout the war.
